Italian design is an amazing success story which has lasted for more than 60 years. Its success is due to the work of, and the combination of, visionary entrepreneurs like Olivetti, Busnelli, Cassina, Alessi and famous designers like Italians Bellini, Castiglioni, Citterio, Colombo, Magistretti, Mangiarotti, Sottsass, De Lucchi.
Milan is the capital of Italian design thanks to its numerous design studios and to it's famous Design Academies (like The Scuola Politecnica di Design, The Istituto Europeo di Design, The Domus Academy). These institutes teach design to thousands of students who come from around the world. These classes are mostly, if not invariably, taught in Italian.
The Accademia di Italiano has developed Italian for Design courses designed for people who attend or have enrolled in Design courses, work in design studios or who have a personal or professional interest in Design The aim of these courses is to help them gain the necessary vocabulary and terminology used in the industry, along with insight into the history and field of design in general. In addition to eventual subjects of specific interest for each student, the course themes deal with History of Design, famous designers and design firms, ergonomy, materials, products and projects.
The course concentrates on the study of the Italian language: the programme is the same as the Standard Italian Course (20 lessons per week) combined with 10 individual lessons per week. At the same time, it focuses on tailor-made lessons created to meet the language needs of students and professionals of the Design industry.
